How to Clean Canvas and Leather Ballet Shoes?

I use leather ballet shoes. They last a very very long time for me and I think that they are very comfy. Canvas shoes are also very good because they ive you more freedom(they move easier), but because they are made of canvas, they usually do not last as long as leather shoes. If you are professionally dancing, its a good idea to get canvas because they look more classical and you can make them skin tone, by using powder makeup and soaking them in warm water. It depends what kind you want. Canvas shoes cost around $12-15, and leather ones cost from $13-20 at dancewearsolutions.com What I do is I buy a canvas pair for practice, and leather ones for recitals and the last practices before the recitals. Just be warned: most straps on ballet shoes do not come sewed all the way(criss crossed) and you have two options: you can sew them( cross them and sew them inside at the middle of your foot) or cross them at your ankles and tie them in the back. I honestly do not know if there are full sole leather slippers without elastics attached. The criss cross elastics are more important for a split sole shoe to fit properly. It is to accommodate the fact that there is no sole under your arch. Regarding ribbons, it is mostly a part of dress code when used with non pointe shoes. They would be sewn as you would on pointe shoes and tied the same way.It would also give you some slight additional support that a criss cross elastic would as you would cross them when tying. Regarding shoe fit, the Dansoft is good shoe, but it might not be the best for you. They are made very well and if they fit right, you are lucky. You might want to try Capezio as they may fit better. Most companies make a full sole leather shoe along with their split shoe models. Make sure the shoe fits snugly but not so snug that your toes curl under. While they all have pre-sewn elastics as far as I know, you could always remove the elastics and sew on your own where you want them. However, I really do not think the criss cross elastic has much value in a full sole shoe.

You could buy regular ballet flats a payless and just use some ribbon because the real ballet shoes were made for dancing and not walking around outside and they are very expensive so its not worth the effort to find or buy them

i like capezio but thats also the only one ive ever had so this is a biased opinion also i dont think they wear out fast ive had my new ones for 4 months and there still fine most people i know dont wear theres out fast the last for a couple years

Green is an uncommon colour for ballet shoes to come in. You can always get some flesh coloured ones and then dye them green. Some people I know have done that

You CANNOT teach yourself ballet at home. You will simply learn poor technique, bad habits, and increase your likelihood of getting injured. Please do not do this. Even saving up for one ballet class every fortnight would be better than you teaching yourself at home!

I think thats awesome that you do not like wearing leather! pretty much every ballet store sales canvas ballet shoes wich is cotton as far as the sole goes... it's only a little leather and pointe shoes well ido not know of they make those when you get older you should invent somthing like that you would probably make billions!

There is NO way you can dance on carpet safely. You will get injured if you continue with this. Find another school ASAP! This is so dangerous and this school is totally irresponsible to let any of their students do this. * A school that would do this even for one class, would most likely not put in sprung or floating floors when it comes time to put in new flooring. Even hardwood is no good if the floor is not sprung or floating. While it is likely you or someone else will shortly twist an ankle on carpet (it is just a matter of time as this will happen,) what is under the carpet can also cause damage. Carpet is never put over a sprung floor. There is no reason to do this as one would never do an sport or dance activity on carpet knowing it would cause injury to anyone who attempted this. Dancing on a floor with no "give" can cause joint damage, shin splints, possible stress fractures and almost always chronic achilles tendinitis.
