Are There Methods of Education That Offer (as an Option) Notebooks Without Lines for Everyday Use? C

Some children do better without lines. Others do better with more lines. For my son, at the seventh grade level, doing math homework on graph paper made an enormous difference in helping him to get his answers correct. (He has a tendency to reverse letters, and this helped him not to reverse numbers. No matter how well you understand how to do a math problem, if you write the numbers in the wrong order, you will get the wrong answer. )It is important, especially as children get older, that they have some way to communicate their thoughts clearly. If your child cannot write on lines, they are going to have some difficulty writing legibly. You might want to try wider lines. One of my children just resisted the idea that his letters ought to look the same each time. It offended his sense of rightness that every time he made a small letter in one sentence it should be the same size (approximately). While there are times to experiment with letters artistically, that's not when you are doing a worksheet for school.Depending on how old your child is, if s/he is truly struggling with writing, you may wish to help them learn to type. But if s/he is young, I'd recommend working with him or her to be able to write clearly. It takes time and patience.You might also want to make a sand table (fill a rectangular pan with damp sand) and have the child practice writing letters in that). You are right that for a child still struggling to write anything at all, lines can be too confining. But later, lines usually help.
